PolicyStreet and ERTH Celebrate Earth Day with Insurance for Gig Workers

PolicyStreet ensures greener pastures for ERTH Heroes, the organisation’s delivery partners with Heroes Protect, an embedded on-the-job insurance with an Inconvenience Allowance.

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 APRIL 2024 — In conjunction with Earth Day, PolicyStreet, a regional insurtech company, collaborates with ERTH, a social enterprise dedicated to the collection and recycling of e-waste, to insure the ERTH Heroes while on the job. The ERTH Heroes, who are gig workers, will receive complimentary on-the-job personal accident coverage with Inconvenience Allowance, in line with PolicyStreet’s goal to serve 2.5 million gig workers and underinsured individuals by 2028.

The Inconvenience Allowance offers gig workers an added level of financial security in unforeseen circumstances that prevent them from working. A lump sum payment of RM100 will be given as income replacement on instances of a vehicle breakdown or tyre puncture whilst on the job.

“Gig workers’ livelihoods are often tied to their ability to work, which can be affected by various unforeseen circumstances. Our collaboration with ERTH aims to address these challenges by providing an additional layer of financial peace of mind through the Inconvenience Allowance, demonstrating our commitment to supporting gig workers in their time of need,” says Yen Ming Lee, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of PolicyStreet.

The Inconvenience Allowance is complemented by coverage for the ERTH Heroes’ mobile phones and personal effects. In the event of an accident resulting in hospitalisation and concurrent damage to the ERTH Heroes’ mobile phone, they will be entitled to repair or replacement expenses of up to RM300. Additionally, should the ERTH Hero’s vehicle suffer a forcible break-in, they would be compensated for the loss or damage to their personal effects up to RM250.

Heroes Protect also includes conventional coverage for accidental death and permanent disablement, offering a lump sum payment of RM100,000 in case of accidental death and up to RM100,000 for total or permanent disability while on duty. The ERTH Heroes will also receive a daily income of RM30 for a maximum of 30 days in the event of hospitalisation due to an on-the-job accident, as well as reimbursement of medical expenses up to RM3,500.

“Partnering with PolicyStreet, we’re proud to ensure the financial stability of our gig workers, who are the backbone of the e-waste recycling industry’s sustainability. This initiative not only provides financial protection to our ERTH-Heroes but also enhances our ability to serve our communities and the planet, exemplifying our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility,” says Mohamed Tarek El-Fatatry, Founder and Director of ERTH.

Embedded into the benefits of working with ERTH, the ERTH Heroes are covered by default and do not need to take any additional steps to opt in for the coverage. In the event of a claim, the ERTH Heroes can directly contact PolicyStreet at claims@policystreet.com for assistance.

In conjunction with Earth Day, show your support for ERTH’s mission in reducing e-waste ending up in landfills and contact ERTH through their website, erth.app, for a free e-waste collection service.
